This renovation started with an insurance claim…a little incident involving an overflowing tub that unexpectedly created the opportunity for a much bigger update.

Luckily, the timing worked in our favor. The family was heading away for a long summer vacation, so we were able to get the design completed and all of the details in place before they left. That meant construction could get underway while they were away, and we could make the most of the eight weeks they were gone.

Having previously lived in France for a year, they were drawn to the character, elegance, and effortless charm of French interiors, which became the inspiration for the design. We took their simple, untouched front entry, powder room, and primary suite and transformed them with thoughtful architectural details, layers of texture, beautiful finishes, and a splash of colour.

We also had a lot of fun getting creative with the existing spaces. An old storage room was transformed into a beautiful yoga retreat, a space that went from completely overlooked to one of the most special rooms in the house. We incorporated hidden doors into the wall paneling as well, allowing practical spaces to disappear seamlessly into the design. These are the little details that can make a space feel really intentional and unique.

The entire project was executed at a pretty incredible pace, with the goal of having everything completed in the eight weeks while the family was away. Not a small feat—but one of the most rewarding parts was getting to watch them walk through the door and see their new spaces for the first time. They had been away for the entire construction process, so they experienced the transformation all at once.

We also took the project all the way through to styling, creating finished spaces that felt complete from the moment they walked in. Because as much as we all say, “We’ll decorate once we move in,” life inevitably gets busy. The boxes get unpacked, the furniture gets placed, and somehow making your home feel truly yours keeps getting pushed down the list.
